Landscape ranges from desert and salt lakes to mountains and gorges. Man made locations include an array of townships, sheep and cattle stations, highways, railway sidings and dirt roads.
The settlement of Parachilna sits on the Flinders Ranges plain and is central to a variety of locations and facilities. Jane and Ross Fargher, who own and operate the award winning Prairie Hotel, play a vital role in assisting productions coming to the region. World renowned Director Phillip Noyce and Director of Photography Chris Doyle shot the feature film “Rabbit-Proof Fence” in the Flinders Ranges in November 2000.
In May 2012 Home and Away cast and crew ventured from their Summer Bay set, for one of the very few times in their 25 years, to the Prairie Hotel and Nilpena Station. See Home and Away from Home article.
International car commercials, and Australia’s Next Top Model have also been shot in the area. A wide variation of landscapes are within a 45 minute drive from Parachilna in the Flinders Ranges, making it an attractive outback production base.
